Jeff's Father's Day Gift List

How to make Sure your Father's day Gifts don't Suck

With Father’s day closing in on us, I figured I would put together a list of ideas for cool things that you could buy your dad, instead of the Little Caesars gift card you bought him from 7-11 over the last five years. Check out the complete list below!

Day Trip to see the Lake Elsinore Storm

Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium

One of the things that my boys and I have enjoyed over the past 10 years is making the drive up the 15 to check out the Lake Elsinore Storm. Anytime you can sit in the front row behind home plate for $19 and see a few guys that may be on the Pads big league roster in a few years, it’s a deal.

You can find single game tickets here

You are going to need someplace to eat either before or after the game. This place was my buddy Cheech’s favorite hangout in Temecula. Ton of TV’s and great food. My boys suggest getting a burger and the sidewinder fries. Buy dad a gift card here, he will love it.

Great Book Options for Dad

Is your dad a fan of mysteries? Nobody better than our palMatt Coyle and his Rick Cahill series takes place in San Diego. Start with the first book in the series “Yesterday’s Echo” and your dad can read them in order. Make sure he gets to Book #5, as it features weird things that happened to me during our Radio career!

If Dad doesn’t like mysteries, here are a couple of sports books he might like. Black Lights by Thomas Hauser is one of my two favorite books written about boxing. Hauser has written a collection of boxing essays each year that are also very good, but Black Lights is the best.

My other favorite boxing book is “The Fight” by Norman Mailer.  Many people have claimed I’m the modern-day Mailer, and who am I to argue! You can get the paperback version for $17 and that’s fine, even if your dad knows your cheap. But I would recommend stepping up and getting the hardcover that features photos from Neil Leifer and Ali’s personal photographer Howard Bingham. This runs for about $75.

Speaking of Mailer, he wrote another book that is in my top 5 that I’ve ever read. The Executioners Song is 1136 pages, but when I was 19 and on a train from Lisbon Portugal to Paris with $3 in my pocket, it was a great way to pass the time. It’s an amazing book.

When people ask me about my favorite book I’ve ever read, I always say this book: The Kindness of Strangers - Penniless Across America. Mike McIntyre traveled from coast to coast with no money in his pocket and this is the story of the people he met that helped him along the way.

Music Gifts That Dad Will Dig

Let’s go to music. I love the Stones, and I love Toronto. The Stones have released the drop in shows they did in 1977 when the marquee read “The Cockroaches”. The setlist is great and the acoustics for a little venue are amazing.

Maybe your dad has gotten away from vinyl and CD’s and has gone digital. Buy him the download of the Pearl Jam show from Viejas Arena that took place in May 2022. I was there with Cade; the show was outstanding with a lot of stories about North County. (if you want to up the ante, find your dad the Tour Poster from that night. It’s my favorite one from the Tour.)

Raiders gear (or your dad's favorite shitty team)

Couple late ones, if your dad is like me and loves the Raiders, shop at the Raider Image store online. Their selection is better than other sites and prices are affordable.

If your dad is a fan of a different team, I still say buy directly from that team’s website for the best results. You can take my advice and buy a few if not all of the items listed above or buy this shit off Amazon and your dad will cut you out of whatever is left in his will.
